i'm thinking about getting my palms tattooed. i've been advised that they'll fade really bad. anyone know if there's anyway to get less fading? also.. i'd like to hear from someone who knows what the pain level of getting your palm tattooed is.

edit: yes, i know all tattoos fade over time but according to some of the tattoo artists i know.. palms fade out faster than most other places.. although they've never actually done any.

Hi ok, i have my ring finger tattooed all the way around with tiny footprints, and on the palm side has faded some. The pain was no more or less than any of the other 5 tatts that i have, in the webbing of the fingers hurt the most, but not unbearable. From what i understand the palms of the hands and your feet shed the most skin, so they will fade faster. but you can always touch it up.

Many tattoo artists refuse to do palms and the bottoms of feet because of the amount of fading that you will experience. Obviously, getting your less dominant hand tattooed will slow the process, but the palms of your hands touch things constantly all day and the more the tattoo is touched, the more it will fade. Put a piece of tape on the palm of your hand and see how many times you notice it touching things throughout the day. You would have to get bi-yearly touchups and a good artist wants to be able to guarantee their work.

I have a friend who had one one his hand. It faded within a year. I thought this was pretty quick but my best friend is a tattoo artist and owns his own shop in PA and he said the same thing with the palms of your hand and bottom of your feet, they will fade within about 3 years time and he won't do them because of that. He also said that since the skin has so many "creases" that it can seem like it is all running together. My suggestion is if you are going to get something meaningful on you (I only assume it is meaningful since you are getting it tatted on you) then put it somewhere that is going to have the greatest impact on you. I wouldn't suggest the palm of your hand, a waste of money and ink!

for starters no one can really tell you the pain level of getting a tattoo. everyone's pain tolerence is different. do you have any other tattoos? if so it will be somewhat comparable. taking care of your tattoos is the number one way to prevent fading. the sun/tanning beds are the number one cause of fading. the uv rays break up the ink. i think that tattoos on your palms would be subject to fading and possibility of getting ruined because of the capacity that one uses their hands in a day. honestly though the best thing for you to do is go to your tattoo artist and talk to him about--even go to a couple and get a bunch of opinions and make a decision from what they tell you. Good luck!! =)

I have seen several palm tattoos and done 2. They must be done VERY deep, they hurt really bad and they take extra time to heal- plus they do fade more than other tattoos. They also are not as clear and sharp as others.
Simple bold designs will take best,
Plan not to do much with your hands for about 10 days.

I don't have any on my palms, actually I haven't seen anyone that does either, now that I think about it....but, I do have them on my wrists. When I got those done, the artist advised me to go lower than the "creases" on my wrist because that skin doesn't take/keep ink well. I'm guessing that the skin on your palm would be just as unwanting to keep ink as well. It might be uneven and you might not like your results. Then good luck trying to get them off...what a process!

Also, you would be out of luck with your hands for a lil bit- I would imagine they would be apt to infection. I had to be super careful with my wrists.

My friend has the money sign tattooed on his right palm. He did'nt complain too much but then again he has a full body suit so I'm sure other places hurt twice as much as his palm did.

I wanted to get my husbands name tattooed on my ring finger, they wouldn't do it, she said it is because the skin on your hands is constantly shedding and the ink would fade and in some cases just disapear all together. Sucks! I hope you have better luck than I did...
