What if the various warring factions that make up the population in Iraq are prepared to continue their cival war forever? Is America prepared to stay in their country to assist the government (we set up) forever? Is the cost in lives and money worth the risk that someday maybe there will be stability? What if there is no "exit strategy"?

What if the "JOB" can't be "FINISHED"....?

At what point will it make sense to admit we made a mistake, as we did in Vietnam? In a year? 5? 10?

Some conservatives say, "don't worry about it". Is this for real? Someone who says that needs to grab a gun and put themselves on the line. Then maybe they will appreciate somebody worrying about them.

The only way the war will end is by America oulling out. You cited Vietnnam, and i believe it is a similar situation/ The Iraqis are prepared to fight to the last man.
There was no civil war in Iraq before America invaded, and if the Americans pull out, and allow an elction to take place without poking their noses in, the civil war will cease.

What if? Look, there are never any guarantees when you go to war. We could have had a different turn of events in WWII. But one thing that was different then from now is that both parties set aside there differences and pulled together in a united front to win the war. Unlike today where the minority party, while first started out in a united effort, quickly turned against the mission to play politics in order to get back power. That was the "mistake' with Vietnam. We never lost any major battles militarily in Vietnam, we lost it in politics.

Anyway, I haven't seen any evidence that the Iraqi people are without resolve, and that is what will make a huge difference in the end.

I don't think we made the mistake as much as our emotions allowed us to believe a conniving imperialistic Christian pusher leader such as ours. We should have realized what was happening long ago and that you can't beat those that don't and will not live the way we do. Unfortunately G.W. thinks everyone in the world should adhere to his way and as of last week has sacrificed more lives then were lost by us on 9/11. His exit strategy is this, he will exit office in 2008 and that is it, leave his mess to someone else for people to blame. This country as have many others have been engaged in war amongst themselves for centuries why should it end now? Not happening, the longer we are there the worse it is going to get and as has been seen recently world leaders are getting fed up with it or him.

IF is a big word. what if the next President is worse than Bush? What if all those whining celebs who said they were going to leave the country if Bush won over Kerry actually left? What if it rained doughnuts? What if there was another Hitler, would people whine about going to war with him? What if this war is God's way at getting back at all those ****** hippies who threw doggie poo at the soldiers that came home from vietnam?

No the war will never end, the United States military cannot beat a group of untrained insurgants.

The US won WWII against one of the finest, most brutal militaries the world has ever seen but we cannot beat a group of yahoos in dirty nightshirts

It is funny that you make the reference Vietnam, I realize that liberals pine for the day when they helped the US lose Vietnam, it was their last real taste of sucess. I hate to tell you this but if we give you your little victory the terrorists will follow us here.

I think as soon as Bush gets the hell out of office the war will end. After all, he's the reason we are over there in the first place. It's their country, let them run it the way they want. That's why we are two different countries. If we're all like one another, we might as well become one.

There is.

At what point? The point where it becomes no longer affordable. Or when we are at war with another nation. Or the approval ratings decrease even more.
