Ordinarily just over two, but as the human animal is currently overpopulated in this world by many factors I think it would be wise to just go for the one, for a few generations, in order to get the world population down a bit to where it should be.

Only problem I can see is the religious problem - where certain groups espouse having loads and loads of babies just so that the particular faith can be bigger than the next faith. Big problem this.
We aint going to be able to plunder the earth for many more centuries if we continue as big as we are - things are going to go POP !.

When I was growing up, the government said that the average household contained one mother, one father, and 2.5 children. We spent quite a number of amusing ways to discover where the 0.5 child came in.

There is no hard and fast answer. As long as you have a stable relationship, and enough money, then you can have as many as you can stand. On the other hand, smaller families contribute less to the overpopulation problem.

Enough that they are all loved and cherished... but not so many that they cant get individual attention. Depending on the family 1 might be enough...or 5 might be missing a few more.

Why do you want to have children? Their not a requirement, unless you're religion says so.

Beyond that, you can have as many, or as few, as you can afford to support, feed, clothe, educate and house. If you can't do that, then don't have any.

As many as you can afford to feed and cloth. Also keep into account how much love you can provide to each one. It would be nice to if you could help pay for college.

The number of children in a family should only be regulated by how many children a couple wants or can have.
