An old method for getting tomatoes to ripen is to put them in a paper bag. We did this with out tomatoes when we had to harvest them early. It works like a charm! Keep them in there for a day or two, but keep your eyes on them so they don't get too ripe! Then enjoy!

The bananas in the bag will also work, since bananas give off the ethylene that hasten ripening of fruit. But your tomatoes may taste like banana flavored tomatoes :)

I am not sure about the newspaper thing since the ink from the newspaper could seep into the tomatoes, but if Granny does it, then maybe give that a try too!

Put them in brown paper bags, and put them in a warm spot. As they ripen, they will give off ethylene gas; the more concentrated it is, the quicker they will ripen.

there are maximum of opportunities, in step with what form of critters are on your area. i in my opinion have had journey with groundhogs, raccoons, diverse wild birds, and a neighbor's "loose variety chickens" eating my tomatoes. I continually wanted i could come to three affiliation, such as you're able to have 10% of the tomatoes - do basically no longer take one bite out of each and every tomato! yet no success on that score.... Assuming your tomato plant life are staked or in cages, try putting some chook netting (attainable in backyard grant shops) around each and every. you additionally can try encasing man or woman tomatoes into the mesh luggage that onions and different produce specially circumstances are packaged in on the food market. The critters have an uncanny means to compliment the ripest tomato, so which you will wait until the tomato starts to colour as much as try this.

the way I've always been told and I use is to spread them out and cover them with newspaper. Something about the paper makes them ripen.

It's always worked for me.
