I have reason to believe that tracking software has been installed on my computer. Is there a way to make sure that my emails, passwords, and websites are not being tracked by prying minds?

Great answers, but I suggest two simple things:

Avast Antivirus from - http://www.avast.com
Microsoft Windows Defender from - http://www.microsoft.com/spyware

The first is a free Antivirus Software that works wonders...and the second is the spyware detection and removal tool. It is fantastic and seems to get rid of and deter most spyware/adware programs that are out there. With the 2 of them running, I have never had a problem.

Many anti-virus softwares now come with spyware protection and detection. I recommend Mcaffe or Stop Sign threat scanner.

Spybot: Search and Destroy
Ad-aware
HiJack This

These are pretty good tools to have to scan your machine. All can be found through a simple google, or on download.com.

You could also just try using bitdefender's online scan, though you will need to use IE for it to run.

Start your computer in safe mode with networking, and go to this site and get Ad-Aware SE Personal. After you install it run it on your computer and it will get rid of spyware.
