Conservative on moral views, but liberal on economic views?

I think that they are a very rare breed indeed, mostly located in conservative areas where a true liberal could not be elected.

My state, Arkansas, is notorious for having "conservative" Democrats. Of course, one always wonders whether this conservatism is merely pandering to get votes instead of actual convictions.

Personally, I don't believe these kind of Democrats are viable for much longer. The Democratic party has become very polarized toward the left, and conservative Democrats may find themselves blackballed with respect to important positions in Congress or in the party itself unless they start "towing the party line."

I believe many of these Democrats might become Republicans because the GOP is quite willing to tolerate liberal Republicans to gain political power (e.g. Schwartzenegger in CA, Chafee in RI, Snowe in WA (I believe), Giuliani in NY).

I haven't heard much of a conservative democrat these days, if you are liberal in your economic views then you are morally liberal

I am a socially liberal/fiscally conservative Independent. I don't understand what "conservative on moral views" means. Is it a "love thy neighbor" type of morality, like most true Christians have, or a "kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out" type, like our current crops of leaders have?

Morality is subjective. I try to be a "moral" person (the first type, not the second) and, more often than not, tend to vote Democrat because they tend to be socially liberal; and, as of late, more fiscally conservative.

They care about the people of this country. They care about this country staying free. They do not want the USA to be only a "state" in some worldwide government. They are true Americans. Just like all the other conservatives. They understand that there are people in this world that we can not reason with and will never be our friends.

While Liberals want to change everything, they want to take away to many rights. They are hedonistic. And they do not care about you and me. They want to give it all away for some new world order in which the US gives up it's sovereignty.

I consider myself liberal on moral views because I don't think it's anyone's business, especially the government's, to tell someone how to live their life.
However, I'm conservative on economic views for the most part because I work hard for my money and don't like to see the govt piss it all away on spending programs.

I consider myself one of sorts. I am fiscally conservative. I do NOT believe in a free ride for anyone. I say NO to big government. However on social issues like gay marriage and abortion, seperation of church and state, free speech, and many other social issues I find myself to lean toward the liberal side.

I don't think it's that strange. People of your political persuasion are probably more tolerant of other peoples views. Good for you for having your own convictions and following through with them. Maybe you should register independant.
