you should definitely go to a doctor and get it checked out. i've been going to a chiropractor since i was a kid for scoliosis... one of several things that can cause back ache. plus, if you go to one, they will work to help reduce the ache and get you feeling better again.

Pretty open ended question:

There are alot of answers. Back pain can come from something as simple as lifting too much weight and spraining the muscles, to other more serious factors like a cancerous prostate that has metastasized into the spine. I've seen people in back pain from kidney related problems to heart and stomach related conditions.

That's why a doctor (Chiropractor like myself or Medical Doctor) will take a good history and quickly be able to know what to look for.

There are a number of things that could cause severe back aches. It could be a slipped disk, pinched nerve, etc. I would go see the doctor. I wouldn't try a chiropractor though until you see a physician.

A number of sources of pain come to mind. The most common are disc problems. If you have undiagnosed back pain, try and get an appointment, b/c an xray can be very helpful in determining a cause and a course of treatment.

There is too much to mention, could be just a muscle sprain, or sciatica or spondylitis, slipped disk. Did you lift anything heavy. If it persists you need to see a doctor.

I'd recommend a good chiropractor. He can xray your back if indicated.
