she has been running a fever all day of appx. 101 but she isn't complaining of anything else. but lastnight she was complaining of a headache, and then threw-up once. then fell asleep, woke up fussing and sweating. but today she's acting normally, although her face is a bit pale except for her brightly flushed cheeks.

TAKE THE CHILD TO A DOCTOR!!! Do not seek medical advice on this site where people have no credentials to give such advice and where they do not know you, your daughter OR her medical history.!!

Chow!!

little ones tend to catch alot of little "bugs" that adults don't b/c their immune systems aren't as strong....

i wouldn't worry unless she runs the fever for longer than 3 days, or the vomiting increases.

as for her flushed cheeks-do they look like she's been slapped? does the redness resemble a red, raised rash? the reason i asked those questions is b/c there is a childhood disease called fifth's disease-my daughter contracted also at age 3. i took her to the doctor immediately b/c i was 6 months pregnant and it's extrememly harmful to pregnant women. the doctor gave her antibiotics to treat it and she was fine. the only other symptoms she had was a high fever and headache.

so if your daughter cheeks continue to be red and she continues the headache and fever-i would have her checked out.

otherwise just treat the fever and keep her comfortable. ibuprofen works best for kid fevers. give her 1 tsp of the oral suspension every 6-8 hours but no more than 4 doses in 24 hours.

you can alternate the motrin with tylenol every 6 hours if the fever comes back after giving the motrin. give her the same dose of tylenol as the motrin.

dress her lightly-cotton works best. bathe her in lukewarm water. don't worry so much about her not wanting to eat-especially if she vomits again. but make sure to keep her fluid levels up-fevers can cause dehydration. water, gatorade (give sparingly-lots of sugar), or pedialyte works great for restoring electrolytes in the body....

My husband is a Physician Associate, he says that sometimes children catch some little "bug" and will usually work it out on their own. There are a lot of mild stomach flus going around, lots of allergy problems which can make kids run a fever and a lot of drainage will make them throw up. Fever is the body's way of heating up to in order to kill the virus or bacteria. (Our 3 year old runs mysterious fevers with no other symptoms.) If the fever lasts more than 4 days, does not respond to Tylenol or Ibuprofen, or your fever reducer, or gets above 103 she should see a doctor to find out if she has an underlying infection that she is asymptomatic of.

As long as she isn't complaining or showing any other symptoms I wouldn't worry too much. Give her children's tylenol or motrin to keep the fever down. Sounds like just a virus. All they would do even in the ER is just give her something for fever and send her home. Also, make sure she is drinking and eating normally (especially fluids). If she isn't better in a day or two or gets worse call the doc.

Hi as a Mom myself, If I was worried or have a some concerns about what is going on. I would call the advice nurse from my Doctors office and let them know whats going on. There maybe a virus going around in school or where your child is during the day and caught it. Althought your Doctor would be the best to advise you.

then again at night she might develope another fever. Keep fluids of some sort in her, such as gatorade or jello at least so she doesn't dehydrate. If her fever persists or she tugs at her ears or her throat hurts (look at it with a flashlight for white pockets) take her to the doctor for medication

How old is your daughter? That would help with the diagnosis.

Try looking up the symtoms for fifths disease...if she has brightly colored cheeks this could be the answer...it's usually not a big deal as long as she is not around any pregnant women.

Most children's hospitals have an "Ask a Nurse" phone line. The phones are staffed 24/7. Maybe call someone there.

If she's running a fever it means her body is fighting something.
It could also happen if she was constipated. If it isn't better by tomorrow morning take her to a doctor.

So, what do you want to know?
It's best that you get her checked out by her pediatrician. Chances are it's nothing serious, but you can never tell.
Hope she is feeling better soon!
