I am dressing up as a "Soc" (from the book The Outsiders) to teach my students. This is basically a preppy girl in the 1960's. I am trying to figure out what to wear as I wasn't around that time. I was also hoping I would not have to go buy a lot of extra things.
My thoughts thus far are a skirt and a cardigan, my issue is my skirt is very a-line, how do I make it poof out a bit like some of the pictures I saw?
Any other ideas?
Please keep in mind these are 12 and 13 year olds that will see me, so no mini-skirts or low cut shirts or middrifts showing.

What you have is good, but have a square silky scarf around your neck tied and pulled to the side, wear folded down white socks. There is no need to have the skirt poof out, just wear a very wide belt with a big buckle. The only skirts that were poo-fed out were the circle skirts and we wore yards, and yards, and yards of crinolines underneath the were starched with very thick starch. Or we had poodle skirts. Bye the way we either had a sweater set or wore the cardigan backwards with the buttons down the back, or with blouse. Hope this helps.

Mod. Retro. Sweet. Very artsy and abstract. Think of Twiggy, a big fashion trend setter in the 60's. Constractng colors like black and white. I say a simple 60's would be a black and white striped dress, almost knee length, a white belt with a circle in the the midde. (circle as a buckle) Or a solid colored belt, simple an mod. Knee length boots or opaque tights are very appropriate and fashion accurate for the 60's. Trow in a barret and throw on a smile and your good to go!

hmmmm..... you coold make your hair super straight and just leave it out. no pony tail or anything. some flats. and layer a few skirts too give the poof effect. also if it's not too late i would go too a vintage store.they sell a lot of old 40,50,60,70 stuff there. or go on ebay to get an idea of things you need. good luck!

just do a yahoo search typing in 1960's fashion and it will show you some of the styles of that year.
try visiting the thrift stores to get your "costume" great stuff and not alot of money.to get the "poof you are looking for try a slip for a wedding dress they come with alot of nylon netting.that's what gives it the fullness.good luck and happy halloween
