Here's the deal:

EVERYONE has different skin, so your decision to buy Proactiv, or not to buy it should not be based on someone else's experience. EVERYONE (even two people in the same family) has different skin.

As for my experience with Proactiv, I've been using it since July 2005, and here's what I've observed:

1. Overall, my skin has improved drastically. I had horrible acne, and unlike what everyone predicted, I did NOT grow out of it as I got older. Before starting Proactiv, I had huge, red, painful pimples, and whiteheads all over my face - and I mean everywhere on my face. Today, my skin is 95% clearer than it ever was before. I've been to all the best dermatologists, and tried pills, topical solutions, prescription medicines, and EVERYTHING over-the-counter. The only thing that really worked for me is Proactiv.

2. The cleanser doesn't clean well at all. I use Johnson & Johnson's Purpose before I start my Proactiv regimen. I would suggest using whatever mild cleanser you prefer.

3. When I get lazy and slack off, the breakouts are IMMEDIATE. And, when I slack off (or stop using altogether), the pimples I get are worse than they were before I started using it.

4. I have very oily skin, so I use the Daily Oil Control. This product works VERY well, but unfortunately, it adds another step to the already lengthy process. This is probably the one thing I hate the most about Proactiv. I'm not a very high-maintenance person. I don't like spending a lot of time on makeup or hair, and I hate that Proactiv takes about 20 minutes in the morning, and again at night. I'd much rather have a regimen that takes 3 minutes... but, I guess that's the price you pay for having clear skin.

5. Considering that all the products last about 2 months or more, it's really not very expensive at all. I pay about $60 for a two month supply of cleanser, toner, oil control, repairing lotion, moisturizer and mask. Plus, it has a "no questions asked" money-back guarantee.

6. They sell it at the malls here in Atlanta.

7. The mask is by far the best facial mask I've ever used.

8. I never experienced drying or burning or itching or anything like that. However, I do not have sensitive skin.

Overall, I love it, and don't see myself trying anything different. If you want to try a cheaper alternative, I've heard that "Acne-Free" (sold in Wal-Mart) is the exact same product for less than half the price.

It worked pretty well for an over the counter product. All of these products can make your skin appear worse before it gets better because they seem to bring the blemishes to the surface. They can also dry out the skin, so you need to be careful of that and ease up or use a moisturizer if that happens. As much as it did improve my skin, it wasn't a cure-all, so I eventually went to the dermatologist where I got better results with antibiotic pills and a prescription gel called Differin. What I didn't like about Proactive, was they they made you sign up for automatic shipments, but then they were very cooperative about cancelling later on after the doctor gave me something else.

NO!!! PROACTIVE DOES NOT WORK!!
I found this site by reading someone elses question about acne. This person gave this site for home remedies on treating acne. It's true! Home remedies work best because all that Proactive and other store bought stuff is all the same and it does not treat the problem...sometimes it covers it temporarily and sometimes makes it worse, but check this link out...the remedies that have you add lemon juice work for sure. (I've done it). Actually, if you don't have super sensitive skin you can try the following (this is not on that site) : Take a slice of lemon and put sugar on it then rub on wet face...this works to rub off all the dirt and dead skin and the lemon helps keep your skin clean. Lemon contains vitamic C and it's great for your skin...You should note: do not use lemon on broken skin, it irritates it. Use lemon remedies when your pimples are not like wounds...I hope it helps! Good luck...

It worked real well for me and another friend who had really bad acne on her face. I think some countries only sell it by ordering on tv, but some do sell it in malls and other pharmacies. I've used it last 2 years, i stopped using as much after the 1st batch and use normal cleansers and moisturizers and interchange it with Proactiv once in a while to maintain. no BIG breakouts for me all these while =)

i didnt use it..

but its the same thing as anything found in a store.

1) cleanser w/ benzoyl peroxide
2) toner
3) moisturizer

for some people it will work, others it will work for a little bit then stop working and for other people it can make you breakout even more

it depends on how severe your acne is and the type of skin you have

proactive just gets celebs to do the commericals and make it look soo good, but jessica simpson never actually used it, she treated her acne with Accutane.

if you dont want to order it, you can go to wal mart and get their version of proactiv called Acne Free, but i doubt that works either

in my opinion its definatly not worth it, just wash your face with a cleanser with benzoyl peroxide or salycic acid, and use an oil free moisturizer. and go see your doctor/dermatoligist

In my opinion Proactive only works during the time you are using it. Once you stop whether it is because of irritation or it has corrected your problems the pimples and blemishes return. I do not know how old you are but as you get older you face starts to clear up on its own.

It worked for me for about a week - and then the zits just came again. I don't think that it is worth it for the price. Now, I use Clearasil Ultra daily face wash and it works 10x better than proactiv ever could. I bought it for about 7 bucks at walmart. To answer your question, I wouldn't reccomend proactiv. Good luck =)

I've broken out since I was 14. I'm - well, over 21 now. I tried Proactive and it works like a miracle. I've been using it for about 4 years. Just remember everyone will have a different result. You just have to keep trying until you find what's right for you. Just like men sweetie.

It does work for most people, doesn't for some.
BTW, (in response to #1 answer) it is normal to experience heavier breakouts at the begining of any new routine, because it's forcing all the junk out. You might break out worse at the begining, but after 2-3 weeks it will taper off and by the 4th week if you don't see results, it's not for you.
Good luck. There are lots of great products out there, but remember, if you are touching your face with your hands, you are putting more bacteria onto your face and therefore aggrivating the problem.

Yes, ProActiv does work. Well for me it did, but you'd have to constantly use it. After the first month or so, you should see a dramatic improvement in your skin complexion. If you ever stop using it, you'll have a horrible breakout all over your face. So be cautious.
