I've forgotten the day-to-day existence of my marriage many years ago. I was married a long time, and I've been divorced many years, and yet now when I look back the married years seem like another lifetime. I do not remember how I used to think in those days, so much has happened and changed.

plenty.
but,
what we "forget"
never goes away.
it affects what comes
even though
we don't "remember"
"no longer cling[ing]",
is a conscious decision.
not something we forgot
if a quality "define[s]" us...
how can it be forgotten?
are we able to forget
a "quality" of self?
remembering something i no longer cling to...
i used to wonder if people were right
when they said i was controlling
now, i realize that they were just trying to control me.
and that my ways (thoughts/actions) are not controlling
--except, in balance, of self--
they are: interest and care
of...us
i am met with resistance
because i am so persuasive.
but, don't they see
that i never offer
until (and unless) asked?

Oh, yes. I am a living-breathing, walking, talking defeated perfectionist. I lived that way for so long. It defined me. There was a continuous loop tape playing in my brain: Do it right the first time and you won't have to do it again.
Just didn't work for me so I resigned from the role. Changed the tape in my head to one that played: Whoopee! Another day to make a mistake!
Seriously, I did have to practice changing my thought patterns to allow myself to fail. I embrace my imperfections now. They help me grow; I know a lot about what doesn't work, and it's fun as heck to laugh at myself.

I've temporarily forgotten who I am, the true "me" that lies hidden in the depths of my soul. I'm destined to spend the rest of this life (and many others) trying to uncover this secret. The funny thing is: I have it, I can almost grasp it, but it still remains magically out of reach!

well, if i remember it now than i havent forgotten it, thus i am not answering your question. Anyone here who actually answers you with something they have forgotten then they are lying because obviously they have remembered. This is an Idiom!

Like, clinging to an unhappy marriage because I thought I couldn't make it on my own.

I forgot about a strawberry farm I was going to have until a friend recently reminded me. I was going to call it "Stawberry Fields Forever." Ironically I live about 10 minutes from where I planned to do it, and I have strawberries planted in my yard.

I've forgotten my dignity and my souls song - I am relearning it as we speak! Soon the music that is me will sing once again!
