I recommended an online gaming community to a friend of mine about a month ago. Last thing I heard she's saying how wonderful and lovely all the people there are. So, when she's rushed into hospital on Saturday i post something on their message board to let her 'friends' know... 30hours later - 4 messages. From a group with 46 members.

So, what the hell do i do? i feel so f'n stupid. Do i tell her they're a bunch of swines? Do i leave it and let her find out for herself when she gets home and logs in? Do I have it out with them, and ask them why they didn't/couldn't summon up the motor skills to type three goddamn words?! Get. Well. Soon. I mean, c'mon it's an online *community* even if I didn't know the person directly I'd still send them my best wishes!

I know im biased but i cant imagine shes done anything to upset them, 'cos if anything shes too nice..?! Should I ask them directly and risk starting a flame war? Aaargh!

It was a moderately busy board. Not now though, I seem to have killed their thread *evil grin*

I think the reason I was taking this so (too..?) seriously is because she's a shut-in and her only friends *are* her one's on the internet. Happily, she runs an on-line support group and there of plenty of people there who care about her... and aren't going to hell *lol*

She is getting better and should be moved out of the High Dependancy Unit tomorrow, fingers crossed!

Thank you all for your kind words and common sense advice, I wish I could award more than one best answer - this is really going to be a toughie!!!

Just leave it for her to find out herself - and thank god she has you who has been there and supported her. It will open her eyes up, but hopefully the hurt will be restricted because she has had a real friend in you.

a friend in need, is a friend indeed.
I have loads of "friends2 on msn and faceparty, etc, but lets face it, if i was to never log on again, due to a fatal accident or illness, not many would notice my absence.
Its just the way the world works, we are in a world of sh*t.
Online friends are just pixels, here today, gone tomorrow.
let your friend find out about these friends herself, then she can decide to delete them from her life, and make more friends.

Some gamers do not read message boards and feel they are a waste of time... do they all post frequently on the boards? Hope your friend gets better :)

Its an online community....people dont really care about each other on there....its just a bunch of people from all over on the damn internet. Just like on here how none of us care about each other.

That's a dilemma. I feel for you being in that situation. I would give them all a chance to defend themselves - if they can't defend their actions, I think you should tell your friend about it all before she finds out on line.

PS - love that name Bunny Feet!

I wouldn't make to much out of it. It's not like she considers these people she's never met to be her best friends in the world.

Tell her. If she is your friend; if not, you will find out. Better to find out now than later. All I am saying is if she is your friend, she will listen to your advice, if not then goodbye to her.

dont worry about it, they clearly dont care and thats the way you want it, when its people on the internet as you dont know who they are.

you would be more worried if they wanted to send her flowers and stuff.
