I don't feel like my 2 month old eats enough. I switched her to soy milk she's still eating the same she has gastric reflux and the soy is sitting alot better in her stomach. She likes her formula better with rice cereal she drinks the whole bottle. I just don't feel like she's each enough. What are some of the things you did with your newborns? Also, what about they're sleeping? My baby sleeps alot. I don't know why? Is this normal..? What are also some of the things that you've done with your two month old babies

I personally prefer to put the cereal in her bottle. She needs to coat her stomach with something. My mother did it with me and her friends did it with they're kids. Call it old fashion.

The cereal really does help with a baby with reflux. Many people are telling you not to put it in a bottle but they must not be realizing how little it actually is. Many kids with reflux do better with the formula a little thicker. Be careful though cause it will plug up the nipple more. I have wondered about blending up the dry cereal in a blender first. It would make the bits smaller. And for the eating enough thing. As long as she eats often 2-3 ounces is not a problem for a 2 month old. especially if she is spitting it all up. smaller meals more often will help to keep it down. like everyone is saying if she's gaining weight she'll eat and sleep when she needs to. don't worry she's fine.

It is normal for a 2 month old to sleep as much as 18 to 20 hours a day. One problem with putting rice cereal in the bottle is that your baby may be filling up on rice and not drinking enough formula. Both of my babies have been on soy milk and had reflux. My son spit everything up and had to be put on Zantac at 8 weeks old. It made a huge difference!! He wanted to eat because it didn't' burn anymore. My daugther's reflux wasn't' as bad so we controlled it by feeding her in smaller portions more frequently and keeping her as upright as possible while she ate and a half hour after. I put rolled up receiving blankets under one side of her crib mattress so she could sleep on an incline. Babies know best how much food they need. If she is gaining weight and is content I would try not to worry about it.

I'm a mother of 3, to include a 4 month old baby. All I can say is all children eat differently, sleep differently, and develop at different rates. If your pediatrician has given you no reason to be worried about the growth and development of your infant, then everything is okay. Its normal to drive yourself crazy worrying about all this, but try to relax...your baby senses your emotions, and when you're worried and stressed, your baby will feel it. About the sleeping, My infant slept 23 out of 24 hours of the day until she was 2 1/2 months. She will come out of it, trust me. You will find that you miss "when she used to sleep so much back in the day". Just make sure you are waking her up to feed her. The cereal is a good idea. And try to keep her slightly sitting up, never flat on her back, to reduce the symptoms of gastric reflux. Don't give up....you'll both be just fine.

First thing look at your baby. She will tell you what to do. Is the formula and cereal enough. Yes I think so. I had over 9 lb babies and had to feed them cereal sooner. I have had to watch for colic and constipation when I did start to feed early. Even thou you think not enough is she telling it is. Is the baby crying 2 hours later and she doesn't have dirty diaper, it could be the stomach is hurting from the cereal. Rub stomach and if hard then. Gently massage stomach. Watch her and see when she takes bowel movement.
Now my son took 3 hours naps and still likes to sleep. My youngest daughter took 20 minutes naps and is still going. the sleep pattern is different for every child. That's why important to watch her and know what she wants or needs. Having children is an experience into knowing another person. What it takes to take care of them. I wished a manual did come with each child, but each child is different. You are going to be ok and so is she.
Beautiful pic of the baby.
Good Luck.

Most pediatricians reccomend starting your child on cereal when they are 4 months old because their systems are not usually able to handle the cereal before then. Did your ped tell you to put your child on the soy formula or was that your choice?
if your child is at the correct weight for her age and has not suddenly decreased in her growth chart then she is most likely fine. If you are concerned about her weight then call your ped and ask for a weight appointment...these are usually free and are done by a nurse.
2 month olds sleep a lot...that's normal
Count how many wet diapers the baby has during the day and call your ped office and ask a nurse if this is a normal amount...as long as she has enough wets she is getting enough food.

follow your instincts and ask your doctor about anything you aren't sure of. my baby developed a milk allergy and reflux at 3 weeks...it was a rough battle for all involved, but we finally figured it all out after a few weeks.
until we actually figured everything out these were the things we did. we eliminatined dairy from my diet, and most allergins--i was nursing. it still did not agree with him, so i switch to reg formula. he also started zantac. the form did not agree with him.

i then switched him to soy and we changed our bottles---3 times! dr brown's is the best for reflux babies!

the soy still didn't agree with him and we finally put him on allimentum, 100% hypoallergenic. and we swiched his med again as it didn't seem to be working very well. he was put on prevacid. (which worked awesome)

after doing all that we saw an improvement, but i still went to a gastroenerologist.....who told me to PUT CEREAL IN HIS BOTTLE, as it is thicker and coats the stomach more and they tend to not reflux as much.

he is like a whole new baby now, and one of he happiest lil baby i have ever seen.

throughout this whole ordeal he was seeing different doctors--who most tried passing off as colic. because he was gaining weight and not spitting up (known as silent reflux) i knew it wasn't and insisted on taking him back til they figured out what was wrong with him. i repeat--follow your instincts, far as my kids are concerned my instincts have never let me down once. you are with that baby everyday, and nobody else sees what you do. every baby is different, and needs to be treated as such.

to answer you question about all the sleeping...i wondered the same thing. my firstborn practically never slept. this one, he was hardly ever up until the last few weeks and he's 4 months now.

your baby will let you know when it's time to eat or sleep or if something is bothering. sit back and enjoy this time, and if there is something you are genuinely concerned about, ask your doctor--and if you aren't satisfied with the answer, ask another one.

it seems like you are doing everything right. hang in there and i hope things continue to improve.
best of luck!

OH NO!!!! Don't fill the bottle with cereal... That is giving the baby empty calories it doesn't need. My daughter's both had lactose problems... My youngest had to be put on lacto free formula, and my oldest was on the prosobee. If you feed your baby on schedule she will fill up. If you over feed her it will cause her to gain weight rapidly. She'll let you know when she is hungry.
As far as the sleep pattern, my oldest slept forever! I had to wake her up every 2-4 hours to feed her. Some kids have a good sleeping pattern, and others don't! My youngest was up every 2-3 hours on the hour. BE GLAD YOU BABY SLEEPS! If you have any concerns ask the pediatrician! That is the only way to get a for sure answer! GOOD LUCK!! Hope this helped!

Why don't you think she's eating enough? Your pediatrician should be tracking her weight gain, and as long as it's steady, she's fine. Most doctors don't mind you bringing a baby in for a weight check, just to ease your mind.

Also, does your doctor know you're giving her cereal? The American Academy of Pediatricians recommends no solids until a baby is at LEAST four months old, and preferably six, although there are, of course, exceptions to the rule...

And, yes, newborns sleep a lot. Most of the time, in fact. How long is she sleeping at a stretch? And what's she doing when she's not sleeping?

What do you mean when you ask what we've done with our babies? Like activities?

Based on her weight gain, she seems like she's eating fine. And your pediatrician says what? I know I tend to worry about everything my daughter does, but we need to relax a bit. When your baby is awake, is she alert? As long as she isnt lethargic during her waking hours, having plenty of wet diapers, etc no worries! As far as sleeping a lot, yep, babies do that! Up to 20 hrs a day for some babies! Mine didnt, she was a little live wire from the get-go (even in my tummy). If you really are concerned about her sleeping too much, try feeding her just after she wakes up so that way she isnt lulled into a milk-coma as we liked to call it. My girl loved her transat with an arch about her that she kicked at, but of course she was in my arms a LOT (I was nursing her every few hrs).
