Ok... I'll be honest..and it might make me sound like a jerk. So I apologize in advance.

The answer: No you shouldn't.

The reason: I've seen a gal try out for a football team before. Unfortunately for her, the team wasn't as welcoming, as you might hope. The problem isn't that its a girl that is competing on the team... its that ... (in this case) she wasn't competitive at her position. So, rather than having an additional body on the field for hitting drills and running plays, we actually had a liability on the field. She had a habit of forgetting the plays that we run (yes... it takes work to memorize a playbook). Another problem is that she had a hard time listening to coaches. She constantly said that she thought the coaches were harder on her because she was a girl, but in reality, she didn't play her position well. Her footwork was horrible, her pad placement was always too high, and she took too long clearing a hole. The team started to resent her when the coaches would make the whole team run the same plays over and over and over again in practice because she wouldn't hit the hole with the right timing, wouldn't clear that LB, or couldn't stop a defensive back from penetrating.

Bottom line... girls aren't built for Football. Men are. We have a natural advantage when it comes to playing. This means you will have to work twice as hard as any guy to have half as much success as them. The divisions on the team are not necessarily good either. If you love football, and want to be a part of the team... TALK to the coach. IF (BIG IF) he encourages you to try out, then you're very lucky to have a coach that wants the additional challenge. If the coach doesn't encourage you to play, then the odds are that he will make your life miserable later on.

My Advice: Stick to playing with friends. Support your team however you feel appropriate.

P.S. Also remember this.... do you think guys are going to think its attractive? The girl that tried out for our team never went to any of the dances, and didn't have a BF (that we knew of) for 2 years. While i dont know if this is due to Football, or other issues... it is something to consider.

I wish you the best... and hope you excel at whatever you put your heart into.

Just because your a girl doesn't mean you can't play football. I would like to say that I had a female member on our football team and she played just as hard as anyone else. The only thing I would say to you is that before you try out, remember that football is a very, very tough sport and if you're not ready to be treated like one of the guys then don't do it. Some guys will hit you as hard and in a lot of cases harder than they would a guy. But if you can last, you will gain there respect and become a member of the team just like them. Good luck if you decide to try out.

As long as you can handle the pressures and harassment you will undoubtedly receive being a girl playing, I say go for it. I have seen and heard of females playing football even through High School. But of course, their is always some form of drama when ignorant people can't adjust their thinking to the fact that everyone is different from them and some people enjoy doing things that others don't.

Have fun playing.

If you must ask others then no, you should not even attempt to play organized football. If you are truely an athlete then you KNOW wheather you are capable or not.

if you want to go out for the team, then go ahead. i know of some high and mid schools that have girls on their teams. heck, there's some on college teams too. i think most of them are kickers, like field goal and punt kickers.
