No, that quote was taken out of the context of a lovely poem and twisted to mean something different than intended.

Its original meaning is saving the innocence (blissful ignorance) of childhood and the paradise they live in from growing up too quickly (wisdom).

To believe that ignorance is bliss in adulthood is to invite disaster into your life. You are responsible for your own life and need to make the most well informed decisions possible or you are liable to end up regretting what you have chosen.

Here is the last part of the poem, keep in mind the context:

To each his sufferings: all are men,
Condemned alike to groan;
The tender for another's pain,
The unfeeling for his own.
Yet ah! why should they know their fate?
Since sorrow never comes too late,
And happiness too swiftly flies.
Thought would destroy their paradise.
No more; where ignorance is bliss,
'Tis folly to be wise.

I don't know who made such a stupid statement, but stop and think about it. How can ignorance be bliss? If you don't know about something then how are you supposed to protect yourself. Not knowing now of days may just get you killed!

Yeah, 'cause you wouldn't know the wiser!

ie: If you get screwed on a deal, you don't know your getting screwed and you still think you made a great deal, then yes! --in away-- ignorance is bliss!
