The 1974 World Cup was hosted by West Germany and Beckenbauer led his side to victory. In 1990 Beckenbauer managed the last West German team in a World Cup before the German reunification, winning the final with a 1-0 victory over Argentina.

He won the world cup twice for Germany. Firstly in 1974 as a player in Munich, then in 1986 as a manager in Mexico. Hence, he is the only player to win the world cup both as player and manager.
