I have an Asus Amberine M motherboard. I currently have an amd athlon 64 3800 venice processor.?

Will I be able to use a faster processor, possibly even dualcore?

Possibly. I'm not sure what the fastest speed your motherboard is rated for, but they do make dual-core processors for this motherboard's socket series.

According to the HP web site, this is a socket 939 mobo. This will support a dual core AMD processor. You will have to re-register your copy of Win XP if you change processors.
