He has just stated he "turned" gay when he was raped by a priest.
Doesn't this prove, conclusively, that homosexuals are made, not born?....usually after a traumatic event

This is really sad because although I don't believe in people "turning" gay by a traumatic event, I think Foley actually does believe it. And what's even more unfortunate is that although his actions are a black streak against the Republican party, this particular comment only fosters the misunderstandings that cause people to hate us.

Imagine if he just suddenly announced he was gay but wasn't involved in a sex scandal, like the governor of New Jersey a couple years back? Do you think he would gain any sympathy from his Republican cronies? Probably not. Instead he has to blame his homosexuality on someone else.

By the way, I heard he checked himself into rehab. What kind of rehab? Was he drunk when he said and did these things? To me checking into rehab is just a political tool that will make people feel sorry for him. Well, it's way too late.

No. It proves nothing. For starters, you are taking the word of someone who is trying to generate sympathy for doing a horrible thing.

The brain is a very complex organ and we do not know half of what it is capable of. It is possible and very probable that some men who were molested at young ages MAY become gay because of that trauma. It is not however conclusive that ALL gays become gay that way. In fact, the vast majority of gay men and lesbian women were NOT molested in any way.

What bothers me, in addition to the horrible things that Cong. Foley said to a minor, is that Conservatives can and will and have started to use this as a reason to say "this is what happens when gays are in leadership positions over children". The majority of pedophilia and cases of adults having sex with minors is performed by heterosexuals not gays.

Just because one man says this he does not speak for everyone. I knew the man was gay ages ago. What he did was wrong and the people who knew he was emailing a 16 year old boy should have done something right away. There is nothing innocent about a 50 yr old being Friends with a 16 year old. Of course the sex messages were sure to follow

No, it states that he's a waste of space who traded his integrity and any chance at real love for a bit of power and acceptance, and was raped when he was young by another waste of space who traded his integrity and any chance at real love for a bit of power and acceptance. I sympathize with him for having been raped, but he is responsible for his own actions, and assaults don't "turn" people anything.

Not a chance. he is scrambling to protect himself from jail time for approaching under aged boys. If he is gay, he has been all his life

So I guess that we as gay people can assume that all straight people are seriously misguided people based on the lack of intelligent thought put into this question?

If you go on that theory wounldn't he hate priest and/or men, since that was the source of trauma? Wouldn't he want to be with just women, since they didn't cause him any harm?
