The battery light on a 1999 ford contour comes on but then it goes off.Its not on all the time. Today I was driving on a kinda rough highway and noticed it was on, went over a bridge and it went off and never came back on the highway was smoother then.What could be the problem?

Check the connection at the alternator. There have been many Contours that have had loose B+ connectors at the alternator. There may also be a concern with the wiring contacting the exhaust manifold or engine mounting, causing a short. If all the connections check out OK, then I would fault the alternator itself. Take it in for repairs.

You better have your alternator checked for proper output. Soon it will crap out and then you are not going anywhere.

do a full charging system check. (use a multimeter, if you know someone who has one)

HAVE YOUR CHARGING SYSTEM CHECKED . IF YOU GO TO A AUTOZONE OR ADVANCE AUTO THEY WILL CHECK IT FREE
