I plan on taking a day trip to the Everglades. Can anyone recommend a good hike or a boat trip?

where do you plan on staying?

one of the northern most parks near ft.lauderdale is Billie Swamp Park. it's kind of dinky though.

Best suggestion is take the FL turnpike down to the Tamiami trail, and there are dozens of 'mom and pop' businesses that operate air boat tours.
Most are about $15 and 90 minutes long. BRING EAR PLUGS.
some give you only toilet paper to plug your ears!
and wear a long sleeve shirt or sit in the middle of the boat, the sawgrass can cut your arms when doing high speed manoevers.
Enjoy!

if you want to see a gator up close, take the JUNGLE QUEEN tour out of Ft.Lauderdale, it's a 3 hour tour of the intercoastal waterway, and you mostly see extravagent celebrity homes, but their JQ island has birds and monkeys and a gator show. Yee haw!
