The past week I have been having really bad jaw pain, it just came on suddenly. My jaw feels very tight and my throat sometimes feel tight as well. The feeling is mainly on the sides and sometimes it feels near my ears, I have also been having very frequent headacjes that just wont go away, When I open and close my mouth it hurts. I have anxiety/panic attacks but dont know if it would cause this much discomfort in my jaw. TMJ runs in my family as well, my 2 sisters suffer from it. anybody else experiencing the same thing or know what it could be?

TMJ means Tempero-mandibular joint. Simply means the joint holding ur jaw to the skull.
My suggestion is to stop caffeine and nicotine (if u drink coffee or smoke) as most stimulant drugs cause tightening of the jaw. Tea is fine. Avoid cold food and drinks as well.

Another possible explanation is u probably grind your teeth hard when u sleep. U can get 'SleepRight - adjustable night guards' for that. Go to http://www.sleepright.com

Also try out yoga or meditation for your anxiety or panic attacks. Blow into a paperbag instead of resorting to grind your teeth. Anti-anxiety medications arent worth taking (unless u're having a full blown hysteria).

Good luck. :)

You could be having those symptoms if you still have your wisdom teeth. You could have TMJ but if you have your wisdom teeth there might not be enough room in your mouth for all your teeth which are trying to spread out. Hope this helps.

Sounds like TMJ. When your stressed you can do things like clench your jaw or grind your teeth in you sleep that can cause it.

I went to an oral surgen and they made me a bite plate, and gave me some exercises to do and it went away.
