There are a number of things you can do, some of which depend of which kind of biology you do:
- Academic professor
- Academic professor and researcher
- Researcher in a Biotech/Pharmaceutical Company
- Researcher in an academic lab, but not the head of the lab
- Field Assistant/ Lab Technician
- Scientific writer/editor
- Science policy worker in the government

As a person with a degree in bio, I can tell you that if you are interested in earning money, this is probably not the job for you. Although some people have very high paying positions (mostly the industry positions), many of the positions do not pay lots of money!

First, I commend you for looking at your degree as an investment and questioning the potential return on that investment. You should be able to work with your college to understand placement numbers for your major. Also, you should attend job fairs and college recruiting shows to get a feel for demand and starting salaries.

Finance may not be any better.

The best thing you can do is to figure out what areas of the country you want to live; what the cost of living in those areas are; and what jobs are available and what they pay in those areas. Match those jobs that pay what you need with your interests and you have narrowed down your field of study choices.
