The reason atomic weapons havent been used is because there are so many of them we could easily blow up the world several dozen times over...literally.

Honestly, the real reason was probably due to Top Secrets of how to produce atomic weapons were given to other countries as a balance of power. Call it a leak if you want, but it was more of a deliberate act. With another country having that information, there was a greater possibility that it wouldnt be used for fear of retaliation. Precisely the reason North Korea and Iran dont need them. The balance of power would tilt against the US...guess what happens next.

By the way, the last (American) person(s) caught leaking information that Im aware of was the Walker family back in the late 1980's.

because everyone saw the horrific destruction. and when the cold war came along the russians also had some nuclear weapons too. so if we used the nukes they would kill us. and plus.. have u seen what radiation can do to a person? the photos are pretty sick

So there would not be a huge war that would destroy the human race and I used to wonder about that also

Because we've learned our lesson?

Also in the case of the US and USSR, mutually assured destruction (MAD) seems to have worked.
