Hi there.
Pulling this answer from my mass communication/journalism class in college:
New York weather was inclimate to year round filming.
The Hollywoodland (now Hollywood) development in California was the summer home for many of the movie stars/starlets of the time '50's or so.
Since the California winters were much milder than the blustery Northeastern states, movie makers could film year round.
Hence the answer.
Hope it helps and good luck.

Wow... OK, the DEAL is, when films were really starting to be a part of americana in the 20's and 30's, studios needed space with a nice climate to develop... that wasn't New York City or anywhere else at the time. New York is better associated with theater. So, the story goes, some studio owners were scouting this great new place in the west call CALIFORNIA... they came to a valley that was filled with Holly trees...they named it ...drumroll please?....Hollywood. Interestingly enough, it was originally Hollywoodland and they later cut it short... Anyways, word caught on about this great place and all of the other studios started building... that's how it happened!

The word “capital of the international” is largely some public kinfolk invention from the city government, city companies, or the two. it rather is in all likelihood because of the fact there are lot of people who immigrated to ny city from 4 corners of the international. so some distance as ny city and the genuine citizens are worried, they'd care much less if it rather is the “international capital” or not. it won't make a dent interior the persons’s life form or harm the city economic gadget. yet one element is for constructive, there are good people who stay there and that they virtually stay no diverse from different good human beings in different cities or small cities.

From a geographical perspective- Hollywood is the film capital because of its warm weather and climate. New York is too crowed BECAUSE it is the capital city, and therefore too busy to house a film industry. :)

Actually, I think it's sort of a misconception that Hollywood was ever the center of the film industry. Most of those big studios (MGM, e.g.) were located further South, in Culver City.

sunshine! A longer, warmer summer with plenty of light - in the days before they knew about the big lights they developed for inside film shooting, they had to use the available light. Also, cheaper real estate. New York, even then, was expensive.
