1. Why did he just not run to Rehab as an Alcoholic?
2. Why is he speaking through an Attorney, who doesn't normally do press conferences and hasn't in 15 years?
3. Why did he resign?
4. Why didn't Foley just say "So What" like many of his supporters are?

1. because Rehab looks good in the polls?! Really, Democrats preach about victims of every sort yet condemn him because he's Republican. Let the drama play out- I cant wait to hear what happens next.

2. because if he's suspected of a crime, anything he says can and will be used against him in a court of law- better to have someone else say it. Just a strategic play- nobody likes it, but it beats the heck out of showing up late for court in his PJ's.

3. he resigned to get out of Dodge before anything else happened. Look- the older or longer-standing Republican politicians leave when faced with huge allegations regardless of circumstances. Look at the previous two Republican leaders who have had allegations of misconduct. The pattern is consistent.

4. because he's no Bill Clinton. It's an election year- easier for him to skip town and salvage what he can than to try to run for re-election through a media circus. Everyone knows that- it's just common sense.

The difference between legally and morally wrong may be coming into play here, apparently it was emails to a few boys over at least two years. And when Hastert was made aware of it he tried to keep it out of the knowledge of the democrats.
Nothing criminal, maybe, depending on how explicit the tapes are and the state he would be prosecuted in, but for a party that prides itself on family values, they dropped the ball very very badly.
I'm adding this after hearing about the rest of the story and as this keeps coming out in dribs and drabs all I can say is that since he is saying hes done the ims and emails he is admitting his guilt, and there are laws that he could be arrested for breaking. So far he has blamed alcoholism, priest abuse and the fact that he is a gay pedophile. Disgusting. How could anyone be aware of this and worry more about this disgracing their party than about the children involved.

He has done what he has done........no excuses and he must pay the same price as anyone where soliciting sex on the internet to a minor. I just pray, as a democrat, that the democrats don't use this as a political rally. This is about the protection of children and a fallen man...regardless of which side of the aisle he sits on. I do think that the fact that Hastert only mentioned this to one republican and not to the leading democrat on the committee speaks of a least negligence on Haster's part. In good faith, he should quietly step down and let the FBI do their work.

First off, it wasn't just "a few emails". As I understand it, the emails are tame compared to the IM's he sent.

Secondly, can you point me towards someone who's saying that? I haven't heard anyone yet. I mean, I'm sure he has his supporters, but they aren't exactly a resounding chorus.

Thirdly, much as I hate to point this out, he is still technically innocent as he hasn't yet been proven guilty in court. I think I speak for most conservatives when I say I'm looking forward to the day that happens, but most of us (me included) are rushing forward a bit.

The nature of the emails and their content pretty much incriminated him. He should be in jail instead of rehab. Now I hear he claims that he was molested as a child..... well poor pityful me" so that gives him a right to ruin the lives of the young boys he has approached?

As all republicans do, I must say Foley was kicked out of our party in less than 3 days of our learning of his behavior and he should honorably end his life.

Exactly...
And even if he did "simply write a few emails..." he had no business doing that, he is supposed to be a professional, a leader and someone for those kids to look up to, and he abused his position and their trust.

If he was Japanese he would commit Hari Kari (mispelled to high heaven - oh well). It's true though. Americans have no honor when it comes to things like this.

the worst part is that he was in Congress on committees to PROTECT KIDS FROM INTERNET PEDOPHILES, this is a perfect example of how pedophiles know what careers to pick in order to access children, it is sickening, like the fox guarding the henhouse
