Darn good question! If you figure out something, share with the rest of us please. The best I can tell you is complain to his mother. He does stuff like that for her without being asked a million times...I can say that from personal knowledge. When we lived in an apartment complex and had to take our trash to a dumpster, my hubby could have taken it out in the mornings with no trouble because he passed it to get to the parking lot every morning, but he still didn't do it. So when it got full, I'd tie up the bag and leave it right in front of the door overnight, outside, and he frequently tripped over it the next morning. Of course he would complain when he got home in the evening and I'd tell him, "well if you bothered to take it out when you can clearly see it needs to be, I wouldn't leave it where it's so obvious." Men are just lazy...pure and simple.

I was curious about how long it takes to take out the trash. So I timed myself. From sitting at the computer in the basement to the kitchen, picking up the kitchen trash, to the living room, picking up some junk mail, adding it to the trash bag, moving to the bathroom, adding to the bag, crossing to the bedroom, adding that trash and taking it all out the door and depositing it in our garbage can and then back to the computer. It took a little less than 5 minutes. Of course I always wear my lace up shoes,a dandy bit of advice I got from Fly lady. Check her out.

Stressing about 5 to 15 minutes worth of work? Nagging him or setting him up is a LOT more bother. Do it yourself!

As far as getting your husband to clean up after himself, that is a matter of both self-respect and childhood training.

Give your husband plenty of Love to show him he's worth respecting and the best way to teach him HOW to clean is by example. Show him how you take care of yourself and your things. Life's too short to whine and nag. Have fun with your lover!

Show him an example of himself.Does he mention when you (on a rare occasion) leave out your makeup and hair dryer? Leave it out all the time until it really annoys him.Once he complains enough, tell him you are willing to be neater, if he agrees to do the same. As far as the trash goes, empty it yourself an assign him another, more distasteful job. He may want to go back to his trash job. Another idea is to let his messes stay just where they are. Eventually he will notice. Tell him your sorry, but the hand maiden quit her job.

about a half hour before he is to wake up throw the trash bag on his face to suffocate him. he'll wake up and have plenty of time to take the trash to his car so he can drive it to the bins.

do your own laundry. if he wants some clean clothes, he'll have to get up and do it himself.

take his credit card and hire some cleaning company to clean up after him. while they are at it , they can clean your mess, too.

you could also try leaving the trash bag (with a leak) on the driver's seat of his car. it's not like he will have any clean pants to change into. he might start doing it out of embarrassment.

Take the bag out of the trash can and hand it to him and give him a kiss, he will automaticly take it to the dumpster. You won't even have to ask him to do it. At least that is how I was trained.

when i first married my wife i was the same way....until i literally got written invitations to do what she wanted. In my defense though i was excellent at putting the toilet seat and lid down. like tomorrow is my day off but i know i got to take the ac out of the windows,do the yard work, pick my wife up from work and take her and my son to the doctor for his appointment. and i better do all that plus the normal wed. chores or else. i still don't know what "or else "is but i don't want to find out lol

Speaking as a man going through this, ............... first realize and please acknowledge there are things he's just not complaining about concerning you. Then you may find the strength to excercise your wisdom to humble yourself enough to say encouraging and ego motivational things to him which will inspire and "lift" him. If you "sincerely" sweeten his ego on a consistant basis, then you must admit to yourself, "hes just a lazy *** and you C A N T change that. Hes got to do that himself for himself. Be encouraged.

If the trash needs to be taken out and he has not done it, just take it out yourself....Chose your battles....Is it really that important?
Find the good quality in him and he will you in return.
Praise him for the things he is good at..Don`t tear each other down over small minor things....Life is TOO SHORT.....

God bless you and your marriage
