I was just wondering if the lavender products from Johnson's work to calm a child down before bed?

We have always given the kids a bath before bed. It's part of our routine but my five year old has been seeming to get really hyper after his bath and I was going to try the lavender shampoo for him.

I don't know about my daughter, but I found something very soothing about the scent. Maybe I was the one who was calmer!

I have used those products for my son since he came home from the hospital. I always give him a bath at night before bed, so I'm not sure if it's the bath that calms him or the lavender products. But, they sure do smell good!

Lavender is a herb that is generally used for it's calming, soothing, and sedative effects for massages, to treat anxiety and help with stress. You can find all of info on the net about Lavender and it's uses. I personally have used the adult line of lavender Johnson's bath products and found that it is very relaxing. I found the sent to be very soothing, so it may help the baby too... they're all different.

We loved these (that was five years ago). Maybe it's all bogus advertising, but when --I-- smelled the lavender, I immediately relaxed (whether this was a true aromatic thing, or just a placebo), and because I relaxed, baby sensed it and he relaxed, too.

It might also have had something to do with the packaging, the calm appearance of the products -- the lavender colors -- instead of the bright vibrant colors of other "kid" products.

Whatever it was, baby and I came to associate the smell with the calming process. Worked on us!

It seemed to work on my daughter, but I don't know if it was actually the lavender or the calming effect of having a bath before bedtime.

I llike how it smells, but I don't really see any difference as far as calming goes. To calm down the 5 year old, one thing you can try is massage. After his bath, tell him to lie down in bed and then use some oil or cream and give his legs, arms and back a little rub down. You can play "this little piggy" with his toes and make it something fun but tell him that he has to be calm and relax. Then read him a bedtime story and off to bed!

I have used Johnson's lavender body lotion for my baby once. No difference at all, but it did smelled good. Just felt ok to sniff my baby after I applied it on him.

it never did for me but all children are different i do not think the lavender makes any difference. just a warm bath is good enough for most children.

I don't know about Johnson's, but I bought a Suave brand of Lavander body wash for myself the other day and it relaxed me! It would be worth a shot. I have heard that it does work though.

Maybe your 5 year old is trying to avoid going to bed. Children are smart and find ways to prolong their bedtime.
