I had vampires under my bed. I could just tell they were waiting for me to turn off the light so they could grab my feet as I approached. if the light was on...no vampires. It's only when the light's off. I'd have to turn off my light, and then do a sort of run-and-jump onto my bed so that I never actually put my feet in harm's way. Once on my bed, naturally I was safe as soon as my feet were covered with the blanket.
The only nightmare I remember about thos evampires was that they'd taken me and my kidnergarten teacher under the bed and chopped off our feet. So...my paranoia made sense.

My monster didn't live under the bed or in the closet. I could have dealt with that. My monster only appeared after I went to sleep.
When I was young, I had reoccurring nightmares. I can remember being so scared that would not go to sleep.
I eventually learned to blocked out the dreams. So much that I can not remember what it was that scared me. All I know is that something was stalking me.
I could not recall ANY dreams for many years. Nothing. No memory of any dreams. I would say that I didn't have any dreams but I have heard that everyone dreams. Some people like me just don't recall them.
To this day, I have a very hard time remembering my dreams. When I wake up, I know I just had a dream but can't remember anything about it most of the time.
So my monster is the worse kind. One that I can not describe. I still think it is lurking in the dreams I can't recall.

The monster I saw when I was little was not behind the closet or under the bed, it was a recurrent character in the nightmares I had.
It was kind of a Frankenstein mixed with a Werewolf, I didn't know at that time, that if i ate too much at before sleep I would have nightmares, so many nights I had this recurrent ones.
I remember very well that he did hurt my sisters and scare me to the point to wake up heavily sweated and having goosebumps all over my entire body.
I have learned the lesson since then and haven't seen him anymore.

I don't remember any monster type, but I was scared of...not the dark, but I guess it would be the dark shadowy areas of my room or the hallway outside my room. I think I was scared of something being in them. I had the light left on until my Mom thought I was asleep. Or with a nightlight. And yes the covers were up to my face.
*Memory* I watched one of the Star Trek Movies where they put the bug (or something) in the guys ear. I was little and it scarred my for life. I would pretty much wrap my whole head under the covers except my nose to help me breathe. I don't remember when I stopped doing that.

When I was a little girl I lived on a farm, and I had what I called "shadow people" that came out of my closet towards my bed at night. It always looked like a stream of "shadows" were coming out of the closet, and it scared me to no end. I always hid under the blankets until I fell asleep. I am 26 now, and I never sleep with all the lights out because I am still scared of the dark.

I had a shadow man that stood in my doorway shifting foot from foot, just watching me. He was in my nightmares as well. When he was approaching, I would hear a sound like the heavy thumping bass of a car stereo coming closer and closer. Too many nightmares to get into, but in the end he would catch me and I would lose my strenth and voice, and he wolud tickle me 'til I near suffocated. Horrible. These days, when I hear that sound, I think of it as civillization encroaching on nature, and I do my best not to become a shadow demon myself. I think that that is how humans look to magical creatures, dark, insubstantial, scary and always coming after you.

My boogeyman came out of my closet quite often when I was little. I would dream that I would wake up and lay on the threshold of the door. He would come out of the closet and pick me up and carry me in his arms down a long dark hallway leading towards the back door. I would always break free of his grasp and run towards my parents room. I would be running as though I were on treadmill. I was running but not going anywhere and when he caught up to me I would awaken. Each time I got closer and closer to my parents door. Just before we moved to a new house I dreamt the same dream running for my life, looking over my shoulder but this time I made it to my parents door. I glanced over my shoulder to see if he was behind me while opening my parents bedroom door and when I finally opened it he was alredy waiting inside to grab me. I hope you got chills reading this because I got chills writing it!!!!

Mine lived outside my bedroom window in a big tree, Kind of a werewolf face in a long black cape. I do not remember when it went away, but under blankets with no body parts exposed was my only protection ! Eventually I grew up and moved away. Who knows, maybe he is still there ??

I never had monsters or anything like that. I did grow up in a haunted house though; all the time, I felt like someone was standing right behind me. It wasn't scary, just other people in the house that you couldn't really see.

I would dream about this totally black figure of a man--no features--just black! He would come in my room and slump me over his shoulder, then carry me away!!! So at night I would hear sounds (Have GREAT ears)and pull the covers over my head and breathe quietly!---of course,BOOGEYMAN left without a trace...And when I was 9?--I looked over to my bedroom window and saw a shadowy face with what looked like craters on the moon on it!--I quickly looked down hoping he was gone--my heart was beating against my ribcage very hard!...Needless to say--no trace of the "MOONMAN"---heheheheeeeee--great imagination, huh?
