Box Turtles are my favorite. And they make very good pets, they seem to like us. Let's see, diet; omnivours= some eat only live worms and slugs or most any bugs or fish they can catch. And some only eat veggies collard greens, mustard greens, green lettuce (not head lettuce it's not good enough for them) many other leafy greens they like. Some people feed them hamburger
and hotdogs, but I don't feed mine people food....
Size; they stay small (6" shell length)

By the way there are 4 types of Box turtles in the US and a Chinese Box Turtle and an Asian Box Turtle so knowing what type you have is important to knowing all of the Qs you've asked.

Eastern Box Turtle is Terrapene carolina carolina
The Three-toed Box Turtle is Terrapene carolina triunguis
Gulf Coast Box Turtle is Terrapene carolina major
Ornate Box Turtle is Terrapene ornata

go to Kingsnake.com for care sheets on the turtles and snake

I have a guinea pig cage with a big water dish that they can soak in (change it daily cause they go in it)...I put them outside on sunny days but don't let them get too cold...they live here but go to sleep underground when it's cold so they can't take the winter like that...mine are indoor pets, but the direct sun rays do them alot of good. I use UV lights and keep them warm but not hot.
good luck yeoman

nicely, from my reviews, i might in my opinion say... NEITHER. I went with the aid of this turtle point whilst i in my opinion needed one. So my mom took me to a reptile puppy shop. those turtles scent so disgusting and uncleanly that I virtually threw up. i desperate after that to not get a turtle. additionally, field turtles will attempt to snap at you once you basically attain your hand in to get their nutrition dish to feed them. Water turtles like the Musk is likewise a discomfort to guard and intensely costly to maintain as a puppy properly. I propose you carry out slightly greater study and notice what you think of!!! :) stable luck!!! i'm hoping you realize what a great dedication this may well be in case you pick for to bypass with the aid of with it.
