I'm curious because I've heard of so many of them die in their 40s and 50s and even occassionally 30s.

There was a study published about a year or so ago demonstrating that the life expectancy of pro football players in general was significantly lower than that of the general population. It would probably be a good guess that it would be even lower for linemen specifically. Maybe you could do a google news search for the study.

The problem doesn't lie in their jobs...it lies in their weight and body fat. NFL linemen typically are VERY heavy individuals which leads to heart problems. Most NFL linemen also tend to be above 6 feet tall, and it has also been proven that taller males typically suffer from heart problems. Combine the height with being seriously overweight, and you have a recipe for an early death. The heart can't keep pumping blood to that much body without becoming fatigued or having the arteries and veins clogged with fat.

To directly answer your question... i dont know what their life expectancy is.... but it all depends on whether they lose the weight after they quit playing.
