I'm looking for an apartment, just to clear things up, what does it mean when an ad say "utilities included". Do they mean I pay just pay rent w/o worrying about water/heating/trash and so on?

Thanks for clearing that up, see its more of a benefit to me to get a 1bdr than to live in a dorm for school.

Usually it means the necessary utilities are included like water, sewer, electricity, and heating fuel (if used). The optional stuff like telephone and cable t.v. are usually up to the tenant. This is because the necessities are going to be needed for the building no matter what and separate meters cost a lot of money. Things like a telephone bill are directly related to the individual tenant's calling habits and are almost always paid by the person renting the apartment. Cable can go either way. The safest thing is to ask - it is a common question and you will not sound stupid asking what is included.

Im pretty sure that they will pay for some of the utilities. Almost all apartments have rubbish and water paid for. Electricity, and Gas, and even Cable (though not a utility) are for you to deal with.

It means just what it says. You just pay rent and they take care of the rest ! Sometimes trash is not included, but not always !

You gas, electric, water and sewage are all included in the one price you pay to them a month. You will not get seperate bills for those expenses.

as long as you dont go nuts with the bills , it means that they pay the utility bills out of your rent as opposed to you pay rent, water, electricity, etc
you will still pay the phone though

ASK which utilities are "included."

ASK, which, if any, you have to pay, yourself.

Do NOT assume - ASK (ask your landlord).

If in doubt, call the local utilities! They WILL tell you.
