Are Reiki Masters required to charge the new 7% state tax in New Jersey? And is Reiki considered body work?

Do you normally pay the sales tax on services or just goods?
A service is something where you are selling the person your time, but nothing material. Like lawn mowing, massage, house cleaning, etc. Goods are when the person purchases something tangible--a lawn mower, a massage table, a bottle of Windex.

I live in Connecticut. We charge sales tax on goods (like if I sold the customer a crystal or a book at the end of the their session) but not on services (the body work itself). Strangely enough we also have to charge sales tax on shipping & handling charges.

Hope this helps.
