There are some demographical tendencies, that's why. However, once you open your mouth to speak a sentence, people immediately know if you're smart or not, educated or not. So don't you worry about it too much. We judge people by their clothes, too, and by all other aspects of their appearance, but that's only the first impression that doesn't stay, at least for smart people.

Easy to spot, and some people can't (or won't) look more than skin deep. Try to judge each person as an individual, and you'll come to know a lot of nice people.

Some people grow up with stereotypes they got from their parents, friends, etc and don't know any better.

Some people have a bad experience with a certain race and will associate everyone from that race with the same negative characteristics.

Some people are just so miserable with their own life that making judgments about other people and their culture makes them feel better about them self.

First of all there is a difference between prejudice and racist. "Pre-judge" = prejudice. It is a natural state of mind to connect things that are familiar to you to things that are not. If you've had bad experiences with a certain race, or only exposed to that race in the media, then you are obviously going to "prejudge" them.
That is not the same as RACISM. Racism is hating someone for who they are, simply by their race.
EVERYONE is prejudiced to a certain extent. IT IS NATURAL. RACISM is not natural. There is a difference.
Is it racist to think that because someone is tall and black, they play basketball? NO. Is it prejudiced? YES. See the difference?

Ignorance is the word of the day.

And for everyone else: Judging people by their clothes and pocket book is not at all the same as judging people by their skin. Those are ignorant comments and there is no way to justify racism.

Because they can see it.
The things people really need to know about one another are invisible. We keep hoping there is away to visually sort people. Skin color is one way it is done.

They do not, most people look deeper than that of color, and then they make they're decision on whether or not to trust that person based on the appearance, attitude, facial expressions, snot hanging out of nostril, etc......

FEAR......of the unknown, of those different from yourself, that you will not be as good, smart, attractive as they are. And of course some people learn to judge people as children.
