Usually these things end with the guy killing himself, so why bother in the first place?

They are not chemically balanced. They probably dont know they sre going to kill themselves till the end anywas.

The better question is whether or not this is now an epidemic. Or is it just getting reported more? The answer to your question is simply that there are sick, deranged people in this world. We can let them roam free and hope that they take their medications, we can put them in asylums, or we can kill them when the death penalty is warranted.
