I didn't find New Jersey, Vermont, New Hampshire, Kansas, Oregon, and California to be welcoming and amiable. Michigan is not on my "tops" list, but was much better than I thought. Florida, Ohio, and New York are welcoming, but only as long as they're taking you're money. Kentucky is welcoming only if they know you or you are kin to somebody; otherwise, they are very impolite, unhelpful, and snobby.

Wow, a lot of southern states near the top of the list. Defies logic. I'd have to disagree.

Think about this - the South had a culture of slavery. How welcoming is that?!? Enslaving your fellow man has to be about the rudest and most unwelcoming act committed by people.

In 1860, there were 6.4 million free people and 3.7 million slaves living in the South. That is one slave for every 1.7 free people! Incredibly unwelcoming. Unless southern mentalities regarding their fellow man have changed 180 degrees (unlikely), the south is extremely unwelcoming.

Has it really changed that much in the South? How?
