Well Brave, I'm in Texas...lol...(not the coldest winters, here, but cold enough)
The deer lease has a cabin so no tents needed there.
We "stay" on the pontoon, when weekend fishing, so no tents needed there...
Most all that I go "camping with" have a 5th wheel or RV..
But! I have slept in the back of a pickup (while camping in the winter) and it was cold -- but lots of goose down and long johns, and alcohol got me through it, and I'd do it again!
There's usually a nice campfire anyway...and there's always SOME that don't sleep (to watch it)...

Twenty years ago when I went camping it was always in a tent on the ground , no matter what time of year it was . Now I'm too old to camp { at least by back is } !

A tent and about 10 blankets. And I get dressed while still under them.
