They don't rely on logic or reason with their arguments. They know that they are in a win-win situation because they have an unassailable authority on their side. They can call someone immoral for whatever they choose and it leaves the other person powerless to refute their claim. No one can go and ask god if it's alright to do something or not. This is why people get into Catholicism and morality: they know that it is a very powerful weapon of manipulation. It is the ultimate weapon of manipulation because it is such a sacred cow that it cannot be disputed without the disputer coming off looking like a wicked, no good person, while the self righteous Catholic accuser comes off looking like a saint and is therefore empowered. The best thing I can think of to do to a self righteous condemner is to laugh at them. Getting angry or belligerent just envictims them and empowers them. Can anyone else think of a way to defeat a Catholic moral manipulator?

Those religious mainstreamers who pretend to have spiritual wisdom unavailable to the rest of us are all blind followers. Arguing with them is pointless. They come in many shapes, sizes, and creeds, but they all have the belief that they are morally superior. Pointing out to them that they are not superior, but merely non-thinking won't accomplish anything.

With them, it's best to do what I do when my elderly mother wants to talk about politics -- I change the subject.

Many people have very different opinions about Catholics, as well as Baptists, etc...
I grew up as a Catholic, and I am still carrying some resentment I am dealing with, with God. But, dont' judge this person. Why? Cuz it will only make you more angry, and it is not right to judge. Let God be the judge. He knows their hearts. I look at it this way.
My mother taught me how to cook and bake. She is a wonderful cook. Now that I am grown, I love to cook, too, but still cannot cook as well as her. But, I try. That is what is important. I try. I see that there are things I do that my mother never showed me, that help me out more. Same with the Catholics. Maybe they have never been shown what true Christianity is, and they are only doing what they have been taught. They know of nothing else, and no one in their life has taken the chance to share salvation with them. So, they are doing what works for them, just as I do what works for me with cooking and baking.
In this case, I am giving you a verse from Psalm 46:10---Be still and know that I am God. Remember that God is in charge. He sees the Catholic's hearts, and even if there is ignorance, it may be ignorance that is innocent. Pray for this person. Pray for all Catholics. We don't know where their hearts lie, but God does, and it is for Him to deal with them, not us.
What is the importance of winning an argument with a Catholic in the first place? Do you think God wants us to argue with each other about Him? Yes, Catholics do have a lot of man made laws, and I could say much more about the Catholic Church, but I choose not to, because God is in charge of these people, who are only living the way they were brought up.
Pray for change. Pray for salvation. Pray for transformation of these people's hearts.
And, one more thing. I know many Catholics who are Christians and are saved. I even know one who chose to stay in the Catholic church to minister to others. She has the gift of prophecy. Yes, a Catholic with a gift of prophecy. Be careful, my friend and don't judge...I chose to leave, only wishing I had the same strength she had for staying.

The best way to discuss someone's religion with someone is to LEARN their religion. Understanding their faith is the first step.

You don't have to agree with them, but knowing how they view things would go a long way.

The answer is obvious: No, you cannot defeat Catholicism.

Think about it. Jesus Christ Himself said, "the gates of hell will not prevail against it (the Church)."

Therefore, what chance do you think you have?

:)

Don't all Christians have the same code of moral conduct?

I fail to see why Catholics are singled out in your question & comment.
