No you don't have to cut your hamsters nails. They will wear down ok on their own. However, you must make sure you put enough stuff to chew on in the cage or your hamster's front teeth can get too long.

Have fun!!!

Usually, you don't, but in some cases hamsters nails get way to long. The vet can do it, and show you how.You could try doing it yourself but in my experience the hamsters don't cooperate well. Some people say that sandpaper works, but it rips the padding on thier feet. (Not good!) The nails will curl over if they are too long, so you should know. Some hamsters actually chew them up thierselves. (Why not mine?!) lol. Well I really hope this helps, I spend a lot of free time on the link below reading bout hamsters. I hope all the reading has helped you!

You shouldn't have to cut your hamsters nails, but if you feel that they are a little scratchy, try holding him and just polishing the ends of his nails off with an emery board. Even if you did manage to clip them, that rough edge it leaves would probably make them still pretty sharp, but using a nail file will help dull the edges a bit. Good luck!

You shouldn't have to. Running helps them wear them down naturally. However, if they get too long, they need to be clipped, but do NOT attempt it on your own, as they are so tiny, and so squirmy, you could end up clipping a toe off.

I think all that crazy digging around they do in their woodchips pretty much wears down their little, teeny, tiny nails. :)
