Actually, the question is asked perfectly. I am going to build a new system from scratch. I want to know whats the faster CPU for $150.

Intel Pentium D 915 2.80GHz / 4MB Cache / 800MHz FSB / Dual-Core / Presler / OEM / Socket 775 / Processor

$140.99

Didn't look too hard, might find something better.

The only ones in that range would be a Athlon 64 X2 3800+ or a Pentium D.. but honestly i'd spend $30 more and get a Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 which is faster than the Athlon and smokes any Pentium D.

If you're wanting a dual-core processor, the AMD X2 3800 is faster than the Intel 915. If you're not wanting a dual-core, the AMD 3800 (not X2 3800, that's a different one) is a very good deal, at roughly $100. Of course, there's a cpu that's considerably faster than both for around $180, the Intel E6300: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115005

Seems like a reasonable question to me, I would go with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103733
It's $160 here, but I am sure you can find it on sale a little cheaper somewhere. It will outperform the Pentium D the other guy recommended, I checked benchmarks.

this is a bad question, we need to know at least what processor you have now if you are upgrading, and if you are buying a new one, you cannot get a good one that cheap
