If spelled this way 'Sebastien', the name would be of French origin, but if spelled this way 'Sebastian', it would be of Greek origin. No matter if it's of greek or french origin, it means 'Venerable'. So I don't mind really which way it is spelled. But what do you think of the name?

Honestly, I don't prefer the name. But I say this to everyone who asks me: name your child what you think is beautiful. If you like it, then you shouldn't be concerned if other people will like it or not. So, what I am saying is if you like the name Sebastian/Sebastien, name your baby that. =]

It has a nice sound to it, kind of a typical "saints" name.

But, think about a little 5-year-old boy, walking into the school building for the first time, surrounded by other kids who have names like Jason and Eric, and saying that your name is Sebastian. The other kids say, "What?!?!?"

Then, let's all learn to write our names, children. Whew.... he'd better be pretty darned smart, and it is going to take him a lot longer to write his name on every paper, not to mention how much longer it will take to learn to spell it.

I don't think I'd name my son that. Remember that most people don't like their names, even if they are typical ones. The more unusual the name is, the more likely the child will get teased or dislike their name. We never know if our children are going to be the kind who get teased or not, but most kids aren't "average" and DO get teased and pestered.

My husband and I chose names for our boys that were not TOO plain, but names that people had heard of before, and most people could spell: Phillip, Benjamin, Andrew.

You asked!

I like it spelled as Sebastian... but I am impartial to the Greeks.

Anyway... I love the name, but then I met someone named Sebastian and their nickname is Sea Bass... ugh! Sounds so redneck. I guess you could just try to make sure that doesn't happen.

I like the name, and my ex-boyfriend's son was Sebastian. I just wonder about when he's older and in the business world, will it fit then?

Christian has a similar sound and is not as unusual.

Studies show that girls do really well with unusual names and boys don't do as well.

I also like William and call him "Liam" for short!

I truly love that name. But honestly it will be hard for him to spell. I'm telling you the truth because I have a little foster boy who just started kindergarten and his name is " Trieghton ", and he is trying his hardest to learn to write the name. There are so many letters that he keeps getting mixed up and so confused. Also, his new little school buddies, most of them have grasped how to write their names and it's kind of heart-braking to see him not being able to do it as yet. His second name is just as hard to learn as it's " Alexander ". It is really sad to seem him struggle so. It's just too many letters to grasp in his little mind. It's as bad as a phone number.
Congratulations on your new baby and I seriously hope you consider shortening his first name.

Make your own origin of the name and choose a different spelling all together. (example) Cibastien, Sabastian, Sebasstian

I can't day that I know anybody named Sebastian... could cause teasing at school... there's nothing worse than a bad name... I don't mind it myself... but chances are other kids will find it funny...
