sort of by distributing. 5+ -2a-16= -2a-11

well, since 5 and 2 are numerals, you can just simply subtract them.. 5-2 = 3
so the answer is 3(a+8)

but if you want to compute it the long way:

5-2(a+8)
5a+40 - 2a - 16

= 3a + 24 or 3(a + 8)

5-2(a+8) distribute the -2
5-2a-16
-2a-11

-2a-11=0
-2a=11
divide by -2
a=-11/2

first you need to use distributive proerty
which would make this problem 5-2a+16
then you would subtract 16 from 5 and 16.

-11-2a then divide both sides by -2

and it will equal A
