Acting is a calling, rather like nursing or politics and those who do either just for the money feel cheapened and have low self-esteem when they rub up against the genuine article. How should we regard them?

This poster continually writes complete shite through a cliched character who neither entertains nor amuses.
A few gullible souls rise to their bait but most people know this is an affected stance by someone trying to make a cult of themselves.
It is definitely not the work of an actor.

Only the small-time kids play those nasty games. There is a certain conceit that comes with putting your work out there for the public to view -- often for the new babies they think they have to put down others to make themselves higher. It's petty.

I have met some stars, in fact I'll name drop a little -- I've had conversations with Vincent Price, Mel Torme, Red Skelton and even Bill Shatner -- to some a few -- these guys are just genuine people who enjoy acting and the profession. Sadly, three of the are dead now (I guess that tells you how long I've been in the biz) but my point is -- don't even bother with small-time snots.

Do your work.

Would acting be such a"calling" if it involved actually suffering, like most other jobs do? You are obviously getting money from it, from your question. So don't ask for sympathy from people who will say you are doing a wonderful service to society. You are pursuing your life's ambition and being paid for it. Have a heart for the rest of us who are shovelling sh!t for a wage. Especially nurses, who have to wipe up sh!t and corpses for a living.

Oh, I get it: you were just trying to wind me up! Well done, Pacino! Let's rehearse together!

I think you will always get people who will say things against you and your chosen profession if it does not fit within their parameters of what they think is acceptable especially family...many times not because they do not think you can do it but they do not want you to get hurt from rejection.
Go for your passion no matter what other people say...stay the course and be strong!
