Humidistate set properly. A/C has not failed. Carpet has not pulled away from wallboard tacking. Admittedly inexpensive carpet but a quality padding. 2nd floor condo, CBS. What causes this?

What you're referring to is called 'rucking' its when you get a visible ripple in a carpet. It normally happens in areas of high foot traffic like halls or door ways but can happen anywhere.

Basically the carpet has stretched. This may be because it wasn't stretched enough when it was put in or it my just be high wear. The quality of your underlay doesn't matter in this instance because its not attached to the carpet. While the underlay affects the feel of the carpet it won't stop it stretching.

But not to worry its easily fixed... Just call you carpet supplier and get the fitter to come out. He just has to pull up one end and re-lay it.

I ran into the same problem, big time, a number of years ago. I thought the underlay was good quality too, and it was, but it turned out to be the wrong type for the type of carpet that had been installed some years prior. How I found that out was, when we had a professional carpet guy come in to try stretching the carpet, the first thing he did was lift a register out and check the underlay. So we had to get it replaced, and never had the problem again.

It's just the humidity. It just needs to be stretched. Call a carpet installer or you can rent a stretcher at a rental store.

Stretching and walking on it, get a carpet stretcher you use with you knee cut and re tack around edges, i have found that after awhile you stretch it will be ok, good luck

If the people below you are also gone but set there a/c too low or off that will do it OR check to see if anyone has replaced there water heater lately they commonly burst or leak and this effects all the units around and below. Otherwise a MOLE?

It just needs to be stretched. Call any carpet store and they will tell you how to do it or get it done.
