Rabbits are generally very quiet because they can't bark or meow, so they thump their feet and make grunting noises. It isn't too common for a bunny to growl. It sounds to me that your bunny loves you and is showing you the only way he knows.

Usually when a bunny thumps and growls under those conditions, it means that the bunny is angry for the disturbance and could end in an attack if you don't approach the situation properly. Especially if the rabbit starts showing his teeth, you need to approach very slowly and get down on his level so that he knows you're not a threat.

i dont know about growling, but yes they do thump, its a warning (usually given by the male) to warn other bunnies of danger

Yes my Holland lop used to do this she would also try to bite me. I believe that she came from an abusive (though unintentionally done) house. After a year she mellowed out and was very sweet.

He doesn't like that and if you continue that is all he will associate with you and he won't like you. Now stop it. http://www.rabbit.org
