if your comp is slow, internet history probably isn't the problem. i would suggest going through a process called disk defragmentation. to do this,
1.click on start
2.go to all programs
3. go to accessories
4. go to system tools
5. there will be a box that says disk defragmenter. click on it.
6. click on the defragment button.
from then on, aside from a couple of prompts that your computer might provide, it's all automatic. but it will take a while.

The Internet explorer tools can accessed by opening control panel, Internet options and the rest is button pushing. To do a more through job, open explorer and right click properties on your hard drive and use disk cleanup. Then, run scandisk first and then defrag. That's the basic stuff. If your prepared to do more tuning, hit start, run, and type msconfig, then hit enter. This will show you what all is starting up when you turn your computer on, there may be some things you don't need that are running anyway, uncheck the boxes to eliminate them. If it turns out it's something you want, put the check back in the box.

First, Backup all data file (pictures, music, film) that you have no other copies of. If using Windows versions after '98 allow creation of a restore point. create one. Then use free software to remove spyware and any viruses (you should always use an Anti-Virus program, anyway. Run Windows Defragmenter (be prepared for a wait). Then run "add and remove software" from Control Panel to get rid of old software cluttering things up. That's a good start to speeding things up; Don't forget to empty the trash! To delete your History in IE, go to the menu, choose, then, at the bottom, select....that should fix that...(for IE ver.6 or above) Mac and Linux, same principles, different methods.
