This question is for my boyfriend, who recently got a red footed tortoise that has a pink spot of paint (was probably used for identification) on it's shell. What would you use to safely remove it? Thanks!

If it just a small spot of paint, don't try to remove it, it will eventually come off. Chipping at it could damage the shell and applying solvents to it could poison your pet.

I have never tried to take paint off of a turtles shell, but I try to talk anyone who wants to paint their turtles shell not to. It is living tissue not a "shell", you would not like your skin painted, at least not all the time..., I guess we do like to paint our own skin, a lot. Bad analogy.
It most likely doesn't hurt them, but none the less I don't like the idea of us painting any animals. I have a box turtle I rescued with purple glitter on it's shell, her name is Diva. Tough to take it off with that name.
Try nail polish remover and a lot of elbow grease...
Wash him well after.
I love the Red Footeds, they are a semi-tropical tortoise so they need it warm and humid, at least as tortoises go it's humid.
Enjoy.

extra perfect to have the tortoise paint the newborn fairly my own opinion might want to be NO, even even with the actuality that its non poisonous the scutes of the shell might want to take in stuff it quite is in the paint that could no longer organic.

I'd scrape it off with something like the tip of a butter knife. Break off most of it and the rest will wear off naturally.
