Okay...obviously tounge rings can get infected and i know that it depends on different people but i know about 5 or 6 people who have it and it never got infected. If you take care of it properly, does it still have a high risk of getting infected?

(For instance, belly button rings get infected very easily.)

P.S.
if you have your tounge peirced, then could you tell me from PERSONAL experience if it hurt or not and how much it hurt.

Yes it can get infected but if you take care of it properly you're good. Now for me when I got mine done I didn't think the actual piercing hurt, it was a few days later when it was swollen. It was hard to eat so be prepared to have liquids for a couple days. Mine wasn't swollen very long, but it depends on the person. My brother has his done twice and the first time it was swollen for awhile but the second did much better.

It's not a tongue ring. Ring implies circular and you will be pierced with a surgical stainless steel barbell :-D

Pain is relative, so everyone feels things differently. Don't ask others how much it will hurt because you are the only person who knows YOU.

If you take care of it properly and have a good piercer who is clean and explains good aftercare, than you should not have a problem. However, please note this: tongue piercings can caused chipped teeth, scratched and weak tooth enamel, bad breath and recessed or gum disease. I think they are unhygienic. (P.S. navel piercings shouldn't get infected at all if you take care of them!)

As a piercer, good luck to you and your tongue

Yeah they can get infected. I have mine done...when I got it done it did hurt a tad. Like when you get a shot in your mouth. And mine was sore for about three days after. I couldn't hardly talk or eat anything..and def stay away from spicy foods! I just followed the directions the people gave me very carefully! Also make sure you go to a professional! But what was weird was my friend had hers done after me and her's got infected. She ended up having a really swollen tongue and puss was coming out. She ended up going to the doctor and they took it out four days later and also gave her a antibiotic. But I think she was being way to careful w/hers...then again it all depends on how your body handles foreign objects!

mine didnt get infected, but I have heard of that happening. I probably didnt take care of it properly and it did just fine. I used listerine to clean it twice a day. Yes it did hurt, im not gonna lie. the actual piercing doesnt hurt that bad, but the week after that is hell. I couldnt eat any solid foods and it hurt so bad when i moved my tongue. I can tell you that it isnt a good piercing to get, and it definitely wasnt worth it. Not good at all if you want to use it for sex. Well have fun, and make sure its what you really want!

Most people are not anatomically suited for tongue rings. Tongue piercings with barbells (standard), or venoms (also barbells), have low infection rates. Your mouth does a lot of the healing itself, but being careful not to put filth in it like genitals, cigarettes, and alcohol while healing will reduce your chances even more. Do not use an oral rinse with alcohol like listerine. Use biotene or a non-alcohol rinse. You can also use sea salt rinses (1/4 teaspoon sea salt per 8oz water) to rinse your mouth any time something other than plain water is in there.

mine didn't hurt much getting it done but the after affects were terrible i hated it u can eat swallow drink... i got a sore throat for about 2 days after. but the good thing about it was that it heals within a week to be pain free then u can go back and change the bar 2 a smaller size as ur tongue isn't swollen anymore. i haven't heard of tongues getting infected but most body piercers recommend u 2 rinse with either salt water or Listerine after eating and before bed. Listerine original (Orange 1) worked best for me

i haven't had my tongue pierced, but it's the same principle on ALL piercings. Some ppl react to piercings different than others, and depends on how much or how well they take care of their piercings. I think that any piercing can be a risk of infections if you don't take care of it properly. For instance i had my belly pierced and i didn't have infected problems. You just have to take care of it constantly. But for that last question you're asking, if you had a history of infected problems in your body, it may be best not to take a risk of getting your tongue pierced. Are you thinking of getting your tongue pierced or u already had it done?

A little bit of encouragement, if you're thinking of getting it done,do it. we all have to take risks sometime in our lives. good luck ;)

Mine is not pierced but My brother had his done and let me tell you he was in pain for about three weeks, his got infected and it swelled up. He was religious in taking care of it and using the mouth wash they suggested he use. The infection went away and he is happy with it now. From what he was telling me it was very painful, he had a very hard time eating and drinking cold drinks.

I have never met a person whose tongue ring didn't get infected at some point. Even knowing this I am planning on getting on within the next month...let me know how bad it hurts when you get one.
