These terms apply to Mirrors and Lenses

You know the flat mirror and the flat glass.

A convex surface has curve that bulges out.
A concave surface has a curve that dishes in.

A convex mirror or lens is thicker in the center than the edge.
A concave mirroer or lens is thicker at the edge than at the center.

The images are also different, but I dont want to confuse you.
You can try yourself and compare the images.

You take two dishes . Put them on each other so the eating surfaces are closed, you have convex mirror or lens.

Put them opposite way, and you have a concave mirror or lens.

Got it ?

my boy asked this question with my help...He is amazed (and so am I) with all the quick answers! Thank you.

And here is another one:

A straight line cuts through a convex only twice. A straight line can cut through a concave more than twice.

Hey, you better ace that math test tomorrow:-)

If you held a sheet of glass in front of you and pushed the middle away from you, that is concave, from your point of view. If you pulled the middle towards you, that is convex from your point of view.
