I was wondering if there was anyone out there that could explain to me the Writing to Learn (W2L) Stretegy? It's part of the Teaching and Learning strategies for the Ontario Curriculum. I don't quite understand the description it gives can anyone make sense of this:

W2L describes a process in which students develop new knowledge and understanding through writing in a variety of formats. W2L may be used by the teacher to assess students' understanding in a particular area of study and by students to assess their own understanding. W2L allows students to draw om prior knowledge, engage in new learning experiences confidently, and communicate new learning. It supports reflection and improves communication skills by helping students focus & synthesize their thoughts. Students can use the strategy as a follow-up to a lesson to summarize text, response and process.

What is Writing to Learn?

Generally, writing-to-learn activities are short, impromptu or otherwise informal writing tasks that help students think through key concepts or ideas presented in a course. Often, these writing tasks are limited to less than five minutes of class time or are assigned as brief, out-of-class assignments.
Because writing-to-learn activities are crucial to many WAC programs (because they best meet teaching goals through writing), this guide presents a great deal of information on writing to learn (WTL), including a detailed rationale, examples, and logistical tips.

Kinesthetic gaining understanding of - 'fingers on gaining understanding of', the scholars learn by skill of easily ending up the job, they get the authentic adventure as hostile to operating theoretically.
