my fish turned white after i came home from a trip...laying ontop of the water all white and furry looking. it was gross but it looked like the insides out came from lack of blood or something. hard to explain.

If it turns furry white - then it is a fungus. The fungus would be all through the fishes body, while just the fruiting parts are visible on the outside.
Like a mushroom, the real mushroom looks like cobwebs in the ground, while the part that we eat is the reproductive part.
